Albuquerque Plant to Shut Down by Summer
(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) -- According to company officials, Schott Solar will close down its Albuquerque plant by the end of summer, ABC affiliate KOAT Albuquerque reports. The plant will cut more than 200 jobs and will keep 50 members on staff. Although the plant will offer severance pay and benefits to those 200 employees cut, most of those employees said that they want to remain working.
Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry said, “We are extremely sorry to hear about the closure at Schott Solar. Our first concern is for the employees and their families and we appreciate that Schott will be working with the community's resource groups to help these folks make a transition into other jobs.”
Both the governor's office and the mayor's office say they are disappointed that the plant is shutting down and are looking for a new plant operator to take its place.
