Democrat Lujan Grisham Wins Congressional District 1 Primary

(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) -- Bernalillo County Commissioner Michelle Lujan Grisham won the intensely contested Congressional District 1 primary after defeating opponents Eric Greigo and Martin Chavez late Tuesday, ABC affiliate KOAT reports.

Grisham maintained a strong lead throughout the night and never lost it. She will now represent the Democratic party in the November election for New Mexico's first Congressional district.

"Honestly, I really think it was about a message that made sense. We stayed clear about jobs, we were clear about the economy,  we were clear about being fair to working families who were really struggling," Lujan Grisham said.

She will run against Republican Janice Arnold Jones in the general election, who ran without opposition in the GOP primary.
