Former Non-Profit Employee Facing Bank Fraud Charges

(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) -- A former employee of a non-profit organization has been arraigned on bank fraud charges in New Mexico.

Bernadette Casias, 49, was arraigned on Thursday, charged with 24 counts of bank fraud.

Authorities said while an employee at Interfaith-LEAP (Leadership for Empowerment of All People) -- a charitable organization that assists Northern New Mexico families -- Casias defrauded her employer of over $56,000 by stealing checks intended for her employer and converting the money to her own use.
