(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) -- Deputies say they arrested a 56-year-old man, who attempted to force himself onto a 12-year-old boy, ABC affiliate KOAT-TV reports.
Ruben Valdivez reportedly stopped the boy in a ditch bank near the 1700 block of Bridge Boulevard and first tried to pay him money for sexual favors. When the boy refused, deputies say Valdivez exposed his genitals and tried forcing himself on the boy. A passerby stopped the altercation.
"This person that interceded definitely was a hero and stopped what could have been a very devastating situation," Sgt. Sam White said.
The boy was able to give deputies a good description of Valdivez, and they found him at nearby homeless camp. He was arrested and charged with kidnapping, criminal sexual contact of a minor, aggravated indecent exposure and attempted criminal sexual penetration of a minor.
He is being held on a $50,000 cash/surety bond.
