NM Department of Health Confirms First Human Plague Case in 2012

(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) -- The New Mexico Department of Health announced that the nation’s first human plague case for 2012 was reported in Torrance County, ABC News Albuquerque affiliate KOAT-TV reports.

The 78-year old man, whose identity was withheld, was hospitalized in stable condition. A health investigation has been launched on the man’s home to determine if his neighbors are at risk of the illness.

There were two cases of the human plague reported in New Mexico in 2011.
