Police Discover Starved Horses Behind Auto Mechanic Shop

(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) -- Police discovered six severely starved horses early Wednesday morning while looking for an armed burglar, ABC affiliate KOAT reports.

They discovered the horses living behind U-SAVE, a used auto mechanic shop at 2600 Broadway Boulevard SE. The horses--two colts, three mares and one stallion--were emaciated and some of them would stand on their ankles because their hooves were in such bad shape.

The horses are now in the care of Walking N Circles Equine Rescue in Edgewood.
