Stormy Weather, Underwater Bridge Slows Rail Runner Express Trains
(KEWA PUEBLO, N.M.) -- Trains on New Mexico's Rail Runner Express were slowed because of bad weather on Thursday, ABC affiliate KOAT-TV reports.
Authorities said a bridge that was underwater slowed the trains. One train that made it over the bridge at a speed of about 2 mph had about 600 passengers on board, officials said.
A representative for Rail Runner Express said other trains will unload passengers to buses at the Sandoval County-U.S. Highway 550 instead of traveling across it, then reboard them on the other side of the bridge at the State Road 599 Station.
ABQ Ride officials said 16 buses were sent to two Rail Runner Stations to transport passengers due to washed-out tracks north of Santo Domingo Pueblo. There were reports of 600 to 800 passengers stranded because of track problems.
