(SANTA FE, N.M.) -- A high school teacher is facing felony rape charges after she allegedly had sex with a student.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, Jennifer Vigil, 31, admitted to having sex with a student on two separate occasions, but maintains that the sex was consensual, a claim that the student disputes.
Vigil allegedly locked the doors to her classroom and propositioned the student last month. According to the Journal, the student said he agreed to perform a sex act because he believed it was "the only way to get out of the situation."
The student reportedly took a picture of the incident with his cell phone.
According to the Journal, sexual conduct between a teacher and student is illegal regardless of consent.
Vigil is being held in Santa Fe County jail without bond.
