Woman Accused of Stealing $4,000 in Jewelry Caught

(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) -- A woman who stole over $4,000 in jewelry from a southeast Albuquerque home eight months ago has been caught, ABC affiliate KOAT reports.

It took six months to identify 25-year-old Miranda Gilbert as the thief who stole the jewelrey from a Nob Hill home, then two more months to catch her, police said.

According to police, they submit 18,000 fingerprints for processing annually. Since there are only a few scientists to process them, getting results back for nonviolent crimes takes time.

Gilbert is accused of at least four burglaries since January.
