Woman Saves Two Kids Trapped in Van from Rolling into Busy Street
(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) -- A stranger stepped in to help save two small children who were locked in a car that shifted into gear and began rolling toward a busy street Saturday night, ABC affiliate KOAT-TV reports.
Lezlie Bicknell and her husband had pulled into a gas station off Edith Boulevard when she noticed something wrong in the van parked in the next spot.
"There was a small child in the driver's seat. She seemed to be alone. I literally watched her shift it into gear. I knew what was going to happen," Bicknell said.
Bicknell jumped out of her truck and tried jumping into the van as it rolled away. She banged on the van windows as the two children screamed from inside, when suddenly her truck rolled toward her.
"I must've knocked my own car in gear jumping out. I left the door wide open," she said.
Her pickup actually ended up stopping the van from rolling into the busy street.
Bicknell said the mother of the children hugged and thanked her. The parents of the children were inside a convenience store at the time.
The incident is under investigation.
