Man Arrested After Two-Hour Standoff

(ENDWELL, N.Y.) -- A Town of Union man was arrested by sheriffs of the Broome County Department after a two-hour standoff, reports the Press & Sun Bulletin.

On Monday afternoon, sheriff deputies had orders to move John T. Sciarra to the Binghamton General Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Unfortunately, Sciarra threatened and chased his neighbor with a hatchet, then barricaded himself in his apartment. He was unresponsive to the deputies’ requests to leave the premises.

Deputies and the Endicott SWAT team came on the scene because Sciarra may have been armed with unknown firearms.

Sciarra was taken into custody after he was tased by the SWAT team. No one was hurt or injured.
