NY Soldier Killed by Suicide Blast in Afghanistan

(WASHINGTON) -- A New York resident was among two soldiers killed by a suicide bomber while serving in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense said 35-year-old Maj. Thomas E. Kennedy, of West Point, N.Y., and 45-year-old Command Sgt. Maj. Kevin J. Griffin, of Laramie, Wyo., died on Wednesday in Kunar province, Afghanistan, after an encounter with an insurgent who detonated a suicide vest.

Both soldiers were assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division in Fort Carson, Colo.
