State Aims to Curb Drunk Driving During Prom Season
(ALBANY, N.Y.) -- During prom season, three state agencies are teaming up as part of an initiative to curb underage drinking across New York.
New York State Police is set to work along with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and the state Office of Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Services to promote the initiative, "It's Your Community, It's Your Call" hotline. The effort encourages New Yorkers to anonymously call the hotline to report underage drinking.
"All across New York State, our young people are celebrating the end of the school year, including attending proms and other celebrations with friends and family," Governor Andrew Cuomo said in a statement.
"This hotline will enable members of the community to keep an eye out and make sure that our young people are kept safe and avoid the devastating consequences that result from impaired driving," he went on to say.
