Alabama's Unemployment Rate Slightly Up

(MONTGOMERY, Ala.) -- Unemployment rose slightly in Alabama between April and May, according to the state's Department of Industrial Relations.

A release by the department Friday stated that Alabama's unemployment rate in May stood at 7.4 percent, which reflects an increase when compared to the April rate of 7.2 percent. Officials said in May there were 159,218 unemployed workers, up from 154,012 a month earlier.

The national unemployment rate went from 8.1 percent in April to 8.2 percent in May.
