Alabama's Unemployment Rate Up Slightly

(MONTGOMERY, Ala.) -- Alabama experienced a slight increase in unemployment from July to August, according to the latest figures released by the state's Department of Industrial Relations on Friday.

The department's report stated that in August, Alabama's unemployment rate stood at 8.5 percent, up a couple of notches from the July rate of 8.3 percent.

The national unemployment rate, meanwhile, fell to 8.1 percent in August, from 8.3 percent in July.
