BJCC Approves Bobby Bowden Statue

(BIRMINGHAM, Ala.) -- The Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex board approved a contract Wednesday to build a Bobby Bowden statue outside the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, the Birmingham News reports.

About $62,000 have been raised by Bowden's Birmingham friends so far, and $10,000 to $12,000 more is needed to cover the total costs of the 7-foot-tall statue.

The NCAA views Bowden as the winningest coash in major college football history since Joe Paterno had 111 wins vacated in July.
