Grandmother Sentenced to Nine Years for Her Role in Murder-for-Hire

(BIRMINGHAM, Ala.) -- A Columbiana woman has been sentenced to nine years in prison for conspiring with her daughter in a murder-for-hire scheme, ABC affiliate 33/40 reports.

U.S. District Judge Abdul K. Kallon sentenced Barbara Patterson for her role in the murder-for-hire with her 44-year-old daughter, Kimberly McGuffie. The 2009 plot was intended to help McGuffie get custody of two children.

Judge Kallon sentenced McGuffie to 10 years in prison in May.
