Five Wives Vodka Will Not be Sold in Idaho
(BOISE, Idaho) -- The Idaho State Liquor Division will not carry the "Five Wives" brand of vodka, claiming that its label is offensive to the LDS community and is offensive to women, ABC affiliate KIVI-TV reports.
Idaho State Liquor Division director Jeff also said, "We felt it was an average product, an overpriced product and had an offensive package."
Steve Conlin, a co-owner at Ogden's Own Distillery, which makes "Five Wives," admits that the packaging is edgy, but insists that's what makes consumers want to buy it.
"We find our label to be classic in our style," Conlin said. "Vodka is cluttered. You have to be edgy to cut through it. We realize we are edgy, but we're certainly not offensive," he said.
Conlin believes that the state's ban of the product is a violation of the First Amendment. Ogden's Own Distillery is thinking about filing a lawsuit against Idaho.
