(WASHINGTON) -- Claims for unemployment benefits dropped slightly in the first full week of October, according to the Labor Department's latest report released Thursday.
For the week ending Oct. 8, the department said claims decreased by 1,000 to 404,000. The previous week, claims stood at 405,000.
The four-week average also went down, falling 7,000 to 408,000.
The national unemployment rate remains at 9.1 percent.
