ADP Employment Report is Better Than Expected

Stockbyte/Thinkstock(ROSELAND, NJ) – According to the National Employment Report released by payroll processing firm ADP Wednesday, non-farm private business sector employment rose 91,000 in September, from 89,000 in August. Employment in the private, service providing sector rose to 90,000 in September, up from an increase of 83,000 in August.

Additionally, according to the ADP report, employment in the private, good producing sector rose only 1,000 in September. The report says manufacturing employment, unfortunately, declined by 5,000.

The ADP number often provides early clues about what could be coming in the monthly government report. But it does not take into account what may be happening to public sector employment where there has been recent jobs cuts.
