Avoid Scams When Withdrawing Money at ATMs

Goodshoot/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- Skimmers and scammers may be a threat to your bank account when you get cash from an ATM.

To avoid the danger, consider where the machine is located.

"Use ATM machines that are attached to or located inside banks," says Adam Levin of the security firm Identity Theft 911.  "If there's not a really good security system that's watching the specific ATM or debit card machine that you might be using, stay away it."

Levin adds that banks have much better security than remote locations or gas stations where no one is around.

"They can put hidden cameras everywhere so they can take down your pin number that you're putting in," he says.
