FAA Orders Inspections for Aging Piper Planes

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(WASHINGTON) -- Federal regulators have ordered new inspections on one of the most popular planes in the United States.

The Federal Aviation Administration wants Piper aircraft that are 15 years or older inspected for damaged or corroded cables, saying the pilot could lose the ability to direct the noses of the planes up or down.

The mandatory inspections cover more than 34,000 Cherokee, Saratoga and other Piper models.

The company said it cooperated with the FAA and that inspections will help increase safety.
