Oprah Winfrey Said to Become CEO of OWN

PRNewsFoto/Discovery Communications(NEW YORK) -- Just three months after her syndicated daytime talk show ended, Oprah Winfrey is said to be on the path towards becoming the CEO of her cable network, OWN.

Citing people familiar with the matter, the Wall Street Journal reports that Winfrey will assume her new role sometime this fall.  Along with being Oprah Winfrey Network's CEO, she will also serve as the channel's chief creative officer.

The current presidents of Winfrey's television-production company Harpo Studios -- Erik Logan and Sheri Salata -- will shift their titles to preside over OWN in mid-July, the Journal says.

The people familiar with the matter add that Winfrey's production company will begin directing all of its new TV production solely toward filling the network's programming needs.

Viewership for OWN has fallen since the channel made its much-hyped debut on Jan. 1.
