Redesigned $100 Note to Begin Circulation in October

United States Treasury(WASHINGTON) -- Benjamin Franklin is getting a make-over.

The Federal Reserve Board announced on Wednesday that a new, redesigned $100 note will go into circulation on October 8, 2013.

The new $100 note has several new security features as part of its new look. The bill will have a blue, 3-D security ribbon along the face side. If you tilt the bill, the bells on the blue band will change into 100s, and move from side to side. This new ribbon, according to the press release, “will be easier for the public to authenticate but more difficult for counterfeiters to replicate.”

A liberty bell will also appear within a gold inkwell decoration when the bill is shifted.

The new design was first unveiled in 2010, but it’s introduction was postponed due to an unexpected production delay.

The Federal Reserve is raising awareness of the new $100 note ahead of time, so that businesses and consumers will recognize the new note as legitimate, and learn to use its security features.
