Stocks Fall Back After Mid-Week Rally

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- Stocks were mixed the day after the markets climbed into record territory.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 40 points at 15,636.55, and the S&P 500 gave up 3 points to close at 1,722.34. The Nasdaq Composite added 6 points, closing at 3,789.38.
Priceline, the site that lets you name your price for a flight or hotel, earned its place in Wall Street history on Thursday.  Priceline is the first stock to hit $1,000 a share on the S&P stock index.
First-time jobless claims shot up by 15,000 last week, but the Labor Department says it's likely due to flawed reporting.  The previous week's numbers dropped to the lowest level in six years.
