Stocks Mixed at Thursday's Close; March Unemployment Figures Due Friday

Comstock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- A spike in oil prices kept the markets mixed despite another encouraging jobs report. The Dow closed down 31 points Thursday, while the Nasdaq was up four points.  The S&P lost two by the session's close.

Crude closed at almost $107 a barrel.  The national average for gas is hovering just under $3.60 a gallon.

The number of people who applied for unemployment benefits last week dropped by 6,000. That's on top of two private reports Wednesday.

The March numbers are due out on Friday with experts expecting national unemployment to remain at 8.9 percent.
