(WASHINGTON) – A campaign on Change.org is requesting that Target Corporation stay closed on Thanksgiving. The campaign stresses the workers' right to spend the entire holiday with family.
So far more than 7,000 people have joined the campaign that was first launched by Anthony Hardwick, who was a Target employee for three years in Omaha, Nebraska.
The movement came after news that Target’s management decided to move the standard “Black Friday” opening time up from 5 a.m. on Friday to midnight on Thanksgiving. This new opening time would require employees to arrive at work at 11 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
Target is not the only company planning to open at midnight on Thanksgiving. They are joined by Macy’s, Best Buy and Kohls. Wal-Mart even plans to open earlier, at 10 p.m.
