(SEATTLE) -- Online retailer Amazon offered an apology Friday for an outages last Thursday for sites like Foursquare, Reddit and Quora, according to the BBC. The outages were caused by a defect in Amazon's web hosting service EC2.
Amazon waited a full week to address the matter publicly, but Friday offered users of EC2 a 10-day credit for the hosting services, even if they were not affected by the defect.
The company explained that the problem occurred when changing a network configuration. Consequently, primary and secondary systems overloaded and failed.
Amazon said in a statement Friday, "Everything looks to be getting back to normal now."
