Honda Recalls Another 960,000 Cars Over Defects

Tomohiro Ohsumi/Bloomberg via Getty Images(TOKYO) -- Honda Motor Co. said Monday it is recalling more than 960,000 Fit subcompacts and other models to fix defects including software and electrical problems.

In one recall, the company said a design flaw can allow residue of window cleaners to accumulate inside the door, which can degrade the main power window switch’s electrical contacts and possibly cause a fire.

The recall covers Fit vehicles produced in Japan from October 2005 to October 2009.  The cars were shipped to China and other Asian countries.

No accidents have been reported due to the defects, according to Honda.

In August, the Japanese automaker recalled 2.3 million cars to fix malfunctioning transmissions.

Honda is also still reeling from a Consumer Reports story last month knocking its top-selling Civic.  The headline stated: ”2012 Honda Civic LX: Scores too low for Consumer Reports to recommend.”  The magazine cited cheap interior finishes and lack of features that other cars in its class offer.

In the most recent recall, 80,111 CR-V’s from the 2006 model year are affected in the U.S.

Honda is also recalling some CR-Z compact hybrids with manual transmission over a software glitch that could allow the car to roll backwards when the transmission is in forward gear.  No injuries from this problem have been reported.

A software upgrade has been made to fix that problem on the CR-Z.  That recall affects 26,000 CR-Zs worldwide and 5,626 cars in the U.S.
