‘Little Printer’ Produces Personalized Mini-Newspapers

BERG(LONDON) -- A London design studio called BERG has introduced an innovative new gadget called the “Little Printer.” With an innocent smile and a charming comb-over, the block-sized cube produces personalized printouts the size of receipts.

The papers can include newspaper headlines, news about your friends from social media sites, daily puzzles, your agenda for the day and other services you can subscribe to through your smartphone.

“Little Printer lives in your home, bringing you news, puzzles and gossip from friends,” the BERG Cloud website read. “Use your smartphone to set up subscriptions and Little Printer will gather them together to create a timely, beautiful mini-newspaper.”

For the product’s 2012 launch, BERG has partnered with Google, the U.K.’s Guardian newspaper, Nike, Foursquare and Arup, a global consulting firm.

The gadget appears to be the product of two worlds colliding: the traditional world of printed newspapers and the modern era of digitally aggregating news, often through social media sources.

“Paper is like a screen that never turns off,” BERG’s Matt Webb said in a statement. “You can stick [it] to the fridge or tuck it in your wallet. You can scribble on it or tear it and give it to a friend.”

Little Printer holds a “compact, inkless, thermal printer” inside of its box body. It connects wirelessly to an included small box that plugs into a broadband router and the owner’s smartphone acts as a remote control.

BERG Cloud is the design studio’s “new technology for connecting and controlling wireless products in the home” that the company announced in conjunction with Little Printer.

An introduction video on the BERG Cloud website lets potential customers imagine how they could use Little Printer.

Little Printer will be available for purchase in 2012 and BERG is expected to begin taking pre-orders soon.
