(AUBURN HILLS, Mich.) - In what Chrysler employees refer to internally as the "Man Van," the carmaker plans to release a new Caravan that appeals to the family man as mothers drop the "Mom Van" in favor of more stylish sport utility vehicles.
The Chrysler Dodge Grand Caravan R/T is expected to hit showrooms in the second quarter, equipped with new features and a stylish body that the company hopes will attract men to the sometimes "unmanly" concept of driving a van.
“It’s an experiment,” Ralph Gilles, Chrysler’s head designer, said in an interview. “Is it possible to make the minivan appeal to a guy who needs the minivan but who used to have the sports car?”
New, "manlier" features in the minivan include a black and red interior, performance-tuned suspension and a nine-speaker sound system.
