Over Seven Million Candles Recalled for Increased Fire, Burn Risk

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission(WASHINGTON) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a voluntary recall for nearly 7.5 million candles sold at major nationwide retail chains including Home Goods, Target and Wegmans.

The tea lights, imported from Vietnam by Rockville, MD-based Pacific Trade International, include a clear plastic cup that can melt or catch fire, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

The company is recalling more than 615,000 sets of candles sold under the brand names Chesapeake Bay Candle and Modern Light. The products were sold at retailers Fred Meyer, Home Goods, Marshalls, Super Value, Target, TJ Maxx and Wegmans stores between July 2009 and February 2011.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the product’s malfunction.

Pacific Trade is advising customers to stop using the candles and return them to the store where the product was purchased for a merchandise credit.
