IHOP Serves Freebies on National Pancake Day

Steve Floethe/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- There’s nothing like free food for a good cause.

For the eighth year, IHOP restaurants are offering a free stack of buttermilk pancakes on Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The popular pancake chain hopes to raise $3 million in donations for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and other local charities. The charities will receive 100 percent of proceeds.

In 2012, IHOP raised more than $3 million for the various charities.  The restaurant has raised over $10 million over the past pancake holidays.

International Pancake Day is typically celebrated on “Fat Tuesday” or the last day before Lent. This year it occurs on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

Free Pancakes for IHOP's National Pancake Day

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- IHOP has declared its own special pancake day, and customers who visit the restaurant Tuesday get a free stack of buttermilk pancakes.  In exchange, customers are asked to make a donation to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

National Pancake Day is traditionally celebrated on Shrove Tuesday, also known as Fat Tuesday.  In theory, it would give people one last indulgence before they abstain for Lent.
