(LONDON) -- The over-the-top, silk bow hat that gained global attention when Princess Beatrice wore it to Britain's royal wedding last month, has been sold at auction.
The headpiece, designed by Philip Treacy, sold on eBay on Sunday for $131,440. The 22-year-old princess put the hat up for auction for charity. Proceeds will go to UNICEF and Children in Crisis.
The hat's new owner has not yet been identified.
Princess Beatrice, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, sported the hat to her cousin Prince William's nuptials to Kate Middleton on April 29. Shortly after, it spawned its own Internet meme and even earned its own Facebook fan page.
