(NEW YORK) -- A stunningly bleak jobs report for the month of August kept the markets down to end the week.
The Dow lost 253 points, the Nasdaq gave up 66 and the S&P closed down 30 Friday.
Friday's report wasn't the good news the government may have been hoping for when it comes to the job market. Employers essentially stopped adding jobs in August. Unemployment held steady at 9.1 percent.
And travelers hitting the road for the Labor Day weekend will find that gas prices are a dollar higher than the same weekend last year.
