Jobless Claims Inch Up to 366,000

Spencer Platt/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- After taking a small plunge to start the month, jobless claims inched up by 2,000 during the second week of August, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

For the week ending Aug. 11, the number of people filing for benefits jumped to 366,000.  The previous week, claims stood at 364,000.

The four-week average, meanwhile, dropped by 5,500 to 363,750.

Jobless Claims Drop to 361,000

Spencer Platt/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- Coming off the heels of a mediocre jobs report, claims for unemployment benefits inched down during the first few days of August, according to the latest figures from the Labor Department.

For the week ending Aug. 4, the number of people filing for benefits dropped by 6,000 to 361,000, the agency reported Thursday.  The previous week, claims stood at 367,000.

The four-week average, meanwhile, increased by 2,250 to 368,250.

Last month's unemployment report found that U.S. employers added 163,000 jobs in July, which exceeded economists' expectations.  But the unemployment rate failed to hold steady, as was predicted, and climbed to 8.3 percent

Jobless Claims Rise to 365K Ahead of Monthly Jobs Report

For the week ending July 28, the number of people filing for benefits rose by 8,000.  The previous week, claims stood at 357,000.

The four-week average, meanwhile, dropped by 2,750 to 365,500.

Americans will get a full picture of how the jobs market fared in July when the Labor Department releases its monthly employment report Friday morning.

Jobless Claims Drop by 35,000

Spencer Platt/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- Jobless claims once again inched away from the dreaded 400,000 mark this month, tumbling by 35,000 last week, according to figures released Thursday by the Labor Department.

For the week ending July 21, the number of people filing for benefits fell to 353,000.  The previous week, claims stood at 388,000.

Thursday's reported drop marks the largest decrease so far this month.  During the first week of July, claims sank by 26,000, but those gains were quickly erased when the figure jumped by 34,000 a week later.

The latest tally for the four-week average also went down, shrinking by 8,750 to 367,250.

Jobless Claims Cancel Gains, Climb Up to 386K

Spencer Platt/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- After tumbling by 26,000 to start the month, jobless claims canceled all of its gains last week, rising by 34,000, according to figures released Thursday by the Labor Department.

For the week ending July 14, the number of people filing for benefits climbed to 386,000.  The previous week, claims stood at 352,000.

The four-week average, however, continued to fall, dropping by 1,500 to 375,500.

For the week ending July 7, the number of people filing for benefits decreased by 26,000 to 350,000.  The previous week, claims stood at 376,000.

The four-week average also took a notable plunge, dropping by 9,750 to 376,500.

Jobless Claims Down to 374,000 Ahead of Monthly Jobs Report

Spencer Platt/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- Jobless claims capped off the month of June dropping to the lowest level since mid-May, according to figures released Thursday by the Labor Department.

The news comes ahead of the latest monthly jobs report, which will be released Friday morning.  Economists expect to see 90,000 jobs added in June and the unemployment rate to remain at 8.2 percent.

For the week ending June 30, the government said the number of people filing for benefits decreased by 14,000 to 374,000.  The previous week, claims stood at 388,000.

The four-week average also fell, dropping by 1,500 to 385,750.

The four-week average also went down slightly, falling by 750 to end at 386,750.

The Labor Department reported Thursday that for the week ending June 16, the number of people filing for benefits decreased by 2,000 to 387,000. The previous week, claims stood at 389,000.

The four-week average also shot up, climbing by 3,500 to 386,250.
