US and European Stocks Mixed at Close

Hemera/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- It was a roller coaster of losses and gains for U.S. stocks Monday, with stocks mixed at the closing bell.

While the Dow ended the day slightly lower by 25 points, the S&P and Nasdaq inched up nearly two points to 1,344.78 and 23 points to 2,895.33, respectively.  

European stocks were also mixed Monday.  The Stoxx Europe 600 gained 0.1 percent, while Spain's IBEX-35 fell three percent.

Meanwhile, the average price of a gallon of regular gas is $3.53, down nearly four cents from a week ago, according to the Department of Energy.  This price is down almost 12 cents from a week ago.
