US and Foreign Markets Up as Investors Await Greek Vote

Comstock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- U.S. and European markets ended the week higher Friday, but investors will still be watching over the weekend with an important election to happen Sunday in Greece.

The Dow closed at 12,767.17, up 115.26 points or 0.91 percent. The Nasdaq and S&P were both up more than one percent, adding 36 points and 14 points, respectively.

Stoxx Europe 600 climbed one percent, while Greek stocks rallied ahead of Sunday's elections.

Friday's gains could be due to investors excited at the prospect of central bank action, or it could all be part of the volatility in anticipation of the Greek election. Investors are hoping that the Greek vote won't be a tragedy for the U.S. economy. Europe is the largest trading partner for the U.S., and if voters decide to withdraw from the euro, it could result in a run on the banks.
