US stocks close higher as oil prices jump

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- U.S. stocks closed higher on Monday after a jump in oil prices.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 9.23 (+0.04 percent) to finish at 23,548.42.

The Nasdaq climbed 22.00 (+0.33 percent) to close at 6,786.44, while the S&P 500 finished at 2,591.13, up 3.29 (+0.13 percent) from its open.

Crude oil prices were about 3 percent higher at $57 per barrel.

Winners and Losers:
  Sprint tumbled 11.61 percent and T-Mobile sunk 5.72 percent after both phone companies ended their merger talks.

Michael Kors hiked its 2018 outlook after acquiring Jimmy Choo and posting better-than-expected earnings in the second-quarter.  The luxury fashion company's stock soared 14.70 percent.
