Wall Street Stocks Stage a Comeback

Ben Hider/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- U.S. stocks staged a comeback late Friday, finishing the session mainly unchanged after being lower for most of the day.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 3.22 points at 15,558.83. The blue chips index had been down as much as 150 points in earlier trading.

The Nasdaq Composite added 7.98 points to close at 3,613.16, while the S&P 500 gained only 1.40 points, finishing at 1,691.65.

Volume was low as investors combed through earnings reports and wait for next week's economic data.

Samsung pulled ahead in the smartphone wars, with Strategy Analytics saying that the company shipped more than double the amount of smartphones by Apple this past spring, Forbes reports. It's the biggest lead samsung has had over Apple since the launch of the first iPhone in 2007.
