Charleston Teen Arrested on Burglary Charges

(CHARLESTON, S.C.) -- A Charleston man was arrested on Thursday in connection with a burglary on Rose Lane last month.

Charleston police say that Quantero Phillips, 19, broke into the home and stole a television. Phillips is charged with second-degree burglary. He will be held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing.

Man Stabbed During Fight in Traffic

(CHARLESTON, S.C.) -- An altercation that took place after two men stopped their cars in the middle of traffic ended with one of the men getting stabbed in the arm.

According to the Post and Courier, the incident occurred at about 2:45 p.m. on Thursday on S.C. Highway 41. Despite traffic, the two men stopped their cars, exited the vehicles and got into a verbal dispute. After the altercation turned physical, one of the men was stabbed in the upper arm.

The man who was stabbed was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a nearby hospital, says the Post and Courier.

Neither party elected to press charges.

Man Found Dead in Charleston Apartment

(CHARLESTON, S.C.) -- An investigation is underway after a man was found dead in a Charleston apartment on Tuesday.

Charleston Police say they went to an apartment on Morris Street on Tuesday afternoon to perform a welfare check on a male occupant, when officers discovered the 28-year-old man laying on his side, face down, on the floor of the kitchen. The man was eventually pronounced dead.

The cause of death is still to be determined.

Crisis Ministries CFO Arrested on Embezzlement Charges

(CHARLESTON, S.C.) -- The chief financial officer at Crisis Ministries, Carol Libby, has been arrested on embezzlement charges.

Libby is accused of embezzling more than $11,000 from Crisis Ministries. The nonprofit organization says it's working closely with Charleston Police in the investigation.

"Crisis Ministries was deeply distressed to discover last Thursday via a call from their bank, Wells Fargo, that the organization had been the unknowing victim of an apparent embezzlement at the hands of a long time employee, Carol Libby, who served as chief financial officer for 10 years, without incident," the organization said in a statement.

On Monday Libby was placed on suspension without pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.

North Charleston Businessman Sentenced for Illegal Exporting to Iran

(NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.) -- A North Charleston man has been sentenced to three years in prison for violating a U.S. trade embargo and illegally exporting goods to Iran, the Post and Courier reports.

Markos Baghdasarian, 49, is an Iranian native who immigrated to the United States years ago, and eventually worked his way up from a dishwasher job to become the manager of Delfin Group USA, a North Charleston lubricant blending and packaging facility.

In 2010 he violated U.S. trade law by shipping $2 million worth of oil lubricants to Iran in an attempt to take advantage of the banned market.

Baghdasarian was caught as a result of a whistleblower, and he pleaded guilty during his trial in December. He was sentenced on Wednesday to three years in prison.
