Fort Jackson Celebrates 95th Birthday

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) -- Fort Jackson celebrated its 95th birthday on Friday with a party for all soldiers, service members and family members, according to The State.

On July 18, 1917, the base opened as a training camp for soldiers that were being sent to battle in World War I. Named after President Andrew Jackson, the base is now the largest basic training center for the Army and almost half of those who join the Army have trained or worked at Fort Jackson.
