Great Southeast ShakeOut Takes Place Thursday

(CHARLESTON, S.C.) -- The Charleston Fire Department is urging local residents to learn about how to best prepare for earthquakes.

This comes as the state observes Earthquake Awareness Week from Oct. 13 to 19.

With 11 earthquakes already being confirmed in South Carolina this year, fire officials are urging residents to educate themselves about earthquake safety and to also take part in the Great Southeast ShakeOut drill on Thursday.

Officials say over 238,000 people in South Carolina have already signed up to "drop, cover, and hold" at 10:17 a.m. Thursday, as part of the drill.
