Man Caught After 1980 Prison Escape

(BRISTOL, R.I.) -- After being on the run for over 30 years, an escapee from a South Carolina prison has been caught in Rhode Island.

Authorities said Armin Christian, 65, was sentenced to 11 months in prison in November 1980 for failing to pay child support. Christian reportedly then escaped from prison on December 25, 1980 and has been on the run since.

That period of freedom came to an end on Wednesday morning as Rhode Island State Police went to a home in Bristol, R.I., and arrested Christian. He is now awaiting extradition to South Carolina.
