(COLUMBIA, S.C.) -- A political committee with ties to Gov. Nikki Haley has raised over half a million dollars that it plans to use to advocate for conservative candidates and causes in South Carolina, The State reports.
The Movement Fund, a federally recognized, tax-exempt organization that was formed in March 2011, has raised $555,000 so far. The committee, which has received donations from Donald Trump and other wealthy elites, has paid Haley pollster and consultant Jon Lerner $72,000 and also reimbursed her chief of staff Tim Pearson $1,357 for travel last September.
Some of the members running the committee are also closely tied to Haley, such as Chad Walldorf, the chairman of the Board of Economic Advisors she appointed, and Kurt Grindstaff, the treasurer for her 2010 gubernatorial race.
