Tennessee Jobless Rate Increases to 8.5 Percent 

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) -- The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development announced Thursday that the state's jobless rate increased slightly to 8.5 percent in August from 8.4 percent the previous month.

August marked the fourth consecutive month that the state's jobless rate has increased.

Nationwide, the unemployment rate dropped .2 of a percentage point from July to 8.1 percent in August.
