Suspect Charged with Murder of Columbia College Student

(CHICAGO) -- Police have charged a 26-year-old man in the shooting death of a Columbia College student in Bronzeville on Tuesday night.

Jerome Brown is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kevin Ambrose, according to published reports.

The shooting happened near the 47th Street CTA Green Line station. Police said Ambrose was in the area, when he was fatally shot by someone in a passing car.

One of Michigan's 'Most Wanted' Sex Offenders Arrested in Illinois

(LANSING, Mich.) -- One of Michigan's "most wanted" sex offenders has been arrested in Illinois.

Michigan State Police say 66-year-old Wallace Heffernan was arrested on Tuesday in Lake Villa, Ill., on an outstanding warrant for failure to comply with the Michigan Sex Offender Registry. Heffernan was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals after authorities received an anonymous tip about his location.

In 2002, Heffernan was convicted of one count of accosting children for immoral purposes.

Man Killed in Drive-by Shooting Near Train Station

(CHICAGO) -- One person is dead following a drive-by shooting near a Chicago train station on Tuesday night.

The shooting happened near the 47th Street CTA Green Line station. Police said in published reports that a 19-year-old man was in the area, when he was shot by someone in a passing car.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators are searching for a light-colored sedan in connection with the shooting.

Patrick Brady Resigns as Illinois GOP Chairman

(CHICAGO) -- Patrick Brady has resigned as Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party.

Brady announced his resignation on Tuesday, in a letter addressed to the State Central Committee. The letter stated that his resignation is effective immediately.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party for nearly the last four years," Brady said. "Working together, I believe that we have accomplished a great deal."

His resignation comes after some conservatives called for him to step down after he came out in support of legislation legalizing gay marriage.

Police Shoot and Kill Teen Who Allegedly Fired at Pedestrians

(CHICAGO) -- A teenager was shot and killed by police on Sunday afternoon, after he allegedly took out a gun and began firing at pedestrians on Chicago's West Side.

Police said in published reports that the teen was spotted on a bicycle in Lawndale, gun in hand, firing shots. At some point, the teen suspect allegedly fired the weapon at police officers, who then returned fire and fatally wounded the boy, officials said.
