Teen Shot to Death by Police

(CHICAGO) -- A 15-year-old boy was shot to death by Chicago police after he allegedly pointed a gun at officers who were investigating a robbery on the city's South Side Wednesday night.

Police say the boy, along with another teen, matched the description of two suspects wanted for robbery on the 1800 block of East 69th Street. The two teens began running away when officers arrived on the scene.

According to police, Tatioun Williams turned to police after the suspects were ordered to stop and pointed a gun in the officers' direction. He was shot and killed.

Illinois and California Investigate Mortgage 'Robosigning'

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) -- On Wednesday, the attorneys general of California and Illinois announced that they are investigating two lending companies that process mortgages in their states.

California Attorney General Kamala Harris announced on Wednesday that she had subpoenaed Florida-based Lender Processing Services Inc., a company which processes 50 percent of the country's mortgages. They are accused of "robosigning," a practice of signing documents without verifying information. Harris created a mortgage fraud task force on Monday to monitor and prosecute violations in the mortgage process.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan sent subpoenas to Lender Processing Services Inc. and Nationwide Title Clearing Inc., a company that provides mortgage loan services to eight of the top 10 lenders and mortgage servicers in the country. Madigan is investigating fraudulent practices by banks and mortgage institutions.

"Foreclosure became a rubber-stamping operation that robbed many homeowners of the American Dream without a fair and accurate process," Attorney General Madigan said. "I will not relent in my investigation into the fraudulent practices by lenders and others that caused and exacerbated the mortgage crisis and the resulting massive foreclosure crisis."

Joliet Refinery Cut Causing Great Lakes Region Gas Hike

(JOLIET, Ill.) -- The Great Lakes region is expected to see a rise in gas prices due to a problem at a Joliet, Ill., refinery this week.

Gas prices rose Wednesday in Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin on Wednesday, and are expected to continue to rise through Memorial Day weekend. The hike is being attributed to a supply cut from ExxonMobil's Joliet refinery, which has experienced production problems.

The average price of gas in Michigan rose to $3.91 a gallon on Wednesday, up from $3.83 Tuesday, according to AAA Michigan.

Chicago Mayor and Jesse Jackson Jr. Testify in Blagojevich's Trial

(CHICAGO) -- Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's attorneys opened his defense with a witness list of prominent politicians, including Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., as Blagojevich's second trial on federal corruption charges began in Chicago on Wednesday. He will take the stand Thursday.

In the first trial, jurors deadlocked on all but one guilty verdict of lying to a federal agent.

Emanuel, President Obama's former chief of staff, testified that no one asked him for anything in return for Blagojevich appointing Obama confidante Valerie Jarrett to Obama's vacated Senate seat.

Earlier, Jackson had suggested that Blagojevich did not name his wife to a state post -- director of the Illinois lottery -- because Jackson refused to donate $25,000 to Blagojevich's campaign.

Federal prosecutors are accusing Blagojevich of attempting to steer the Senate seat to Jackson in return for more than $1 million in campaign contributions from Jackson's political allies. Jackson has said he knows nothing of such a deal and is not charged with any wrongdoing.
