Two Construction Works Fall into South Side Trench

(CHICAGO) -- Two construction workers fell into a 20-foot hole on the South Side Wednesday morning, according to WLS-TV.

The incident occurred on the Water Reclamation District at 400 East 130th Street. One of the workers is seriously injured. 

A rescue effort is currently underway. The University of Chicago has sent a medical helicopter to the scene.

Former Governor Blagojevich Retrial Continues with Jury Selection Thursday

(CHICAGO) -- Jury selection of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich enters day two Thursday. He is expected to be in court when the jurors are directly questioned.

Blagojevich did not appear in court Wednesday as the trial officially opened, but he will be there as jurors are questioned one by one by the judge and lawyers. They will ask jurors how familiar they are with the corruption case and what they know about the last trial.

About 150 potential jurors filled out questionnaires Wednesday.

Emanuel Names Financial Team

(CHICAGO -- Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel has named a new financial team to solve the city’s budgetary crisis.

Emanuel picked Mark Angelson, a former executive at World Color Press and RR Donnelly as his deputy mayor and chair of the Economic, Budgetary and Business Development Council. Angelson will be paid $1 a year.

Additional members of the financial team will be Lois Scott as chief financial officer and Alexandra Holt, a lawyer, as the budget director.

Thousands Without Power in Central, Southern Illinois After Storms

(CHICAGO) -- Thousands are without power after heavy storms brought tornadoes, rain and hail to central and southern Illinois.

Ameren Illinois is reportedly handling some 35,000 customers without power. At least one tornado touched down in central Christian County, although most of the damage caused across the state was from strong winds.

Portions of Illinois 116 is reportedly flooded, along with downtown Taylorville.

Retrial Begins for Rod Blagojevich

(CHICAGO) -- The retrial for former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich gets underway Wednesday as potential jurors will fill out questionnaires. Among the questions they will have to answer Wednesday is what do they know about the first trial and what were there impressions?

Blagojevich, who will have a smaller defense team this time around, will not have to appear in court Wednesday. Sam Adam Jr. and Sr. will not be present in the courtroom, but Adam Jr. remains an advisor to the former governor's team.

The trial will feature fewer charges as prosecutors have dropped the racketeering conspiracy counts against Blagojevich and his brother, Robert, was dropped as a co-defendant.

It is not clear at this time if Blagojevich will take the stand in this trial.
