Man Accused in Fraud Scheme to Avoid Paying Impound Fees

(CHICAGO) -- A Chicago man has been arrested and charged with bankruptcy fraud, for his alleged role in a scheme to cheat the city out of impound fees.

Daniel Rankins, 30, was arrested Thursday following an undercover investigation by the FBI and the city of Chicago’s Office of Inspector General.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said that Rankins was part of a scheme where individuals, in exchange for cash payments, orchestrated and assisted in the filing of false bankruptcy petitions to avoid paying impound fees to the city.

Construction Begins on Housing Development for Veterans

(CHICAGO) -- Construction of a housing development aimed at addressing the needs of veterans with families at risk of homelessness, got underway on Thursday.

The Hope Manor II Apartments are being built on three acres of land donated by the City of Chicago, in the area of 60th and Halsted streets in the Englewood neighborhood.

"We have a duty to provide Illinois Veterans with the support they deserve after serving our country," Governor Pat Quinn said in a statement. "Veterans often return to a unique set of challenges during the transition to civilian life, and this new community will address their family needs during this time."

FBI Offers Reward for Fugitive on the Run

(CHICAGO) -- The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of a man.

The FBI says Paris Poe is being sought for questioning in a federal murder investigation. He has also violated his parole.

A warrant has also been issued for Poe's arrest for unlawful flight to avoid custody and confinement.

Teen Gunned Down on South Side

(CHICAGO) -- A 15-year-old boy was gunned down on Monday night, just a few blocks from President Obama's home on Chicago's South Side.

The shooting happened in the vicinity of East 50th Street and South Evans Avenue. Police say Cornelius German was shot in the back and pronounced dead at the scene, according to multiple media reports.

Police are investigating the motive behind the killing.

There were no arrests.

Woman Struck and Killed by Truck in West Loop

(CHICAGO) -- A woman is dead after being struck by a truck in the West Loop on Monday morning.

The incident was reported around 8:30 a.m. on the 700 block of West Randolph Street. Police said in published reports that the woman was struck as she attempted to cross the street.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck has been cited with failure to yield to a pedestrian, the Chicago Tribune reported.
